Many mothers have a brief lactation consultation in the hospital to address immediate concerns in the first hours and days after birth. There are many challenges that can occur after the family transitions into the home environment. Sometimes there is limited access to prompt lactation support by an IBCLC and breastfeeding issues may not arise until the mother is already discharged or no longer has postpartum assistance.

The outpatient lactation consultation is an in-depth evaluation of both mother and baby that is tailored to address issues and concerns at each stage of the breastfeeding journey. These challenges can vary by age of the infant and can range from latching, jaundice, infant weight gain, supply concerns, transitioning back to work, introducing bottles and/or solids, and weaning from breastfeeding. An appointment with our private practice lactation consultant is 100% devoted to your unique breastfeeding challenges. We work with you to either build on to the care plan you may have started with someone else or to help you create a new plan that better suits your needs.

Each feeding issue is unique. How many appointments you will need really depends on the type and complexity of issues you are dealing with. We provide very personalized, in-depth consultations so many families find that they are able to get the support they need in fewer appointments. After the initial consultation, we will recommend whether an in-person follow-up is recommended. Phone and email support is available for two weeks after the initial consultation.
